Patience Callahan is 25 and fast becoming an old maid. But she’s spent most of her life dreaming over romantic European literature and wants a dashing d’Artagnan, not a bookish Bob Cratchit. Alas, the Colorado town of Gilman is chock-full of Cratchits without a d’Artagnan in sight.

Peter Foote, the general store owner, has been in love with Patience for seven years. But every time he’s on the verge of proposing, she cuts him off; he can only imagine on purpose. This time though, dadburn it, he’s going to go through with it. Ring in hand, he’s moments from touching knee to floor, when Patience pulls out a list of mail-order bride advertisements and declares her intention to marry a backwoods stranger, on Christmas Day. Peter has two weeks to change her mind.

Cute story

The plot was cute. Mail order bride stories are fun, especially Christmas stories.

Unfortunately the lady who read it left much to be desired. I almost stopped listening. Her inaccurate use of "Patiences" instead of "Patience' " was nerve grinding.

Enjoyed listening to this cute and sometimes laughable romance. I usually don't go for short stories but am glad I listened to this one.

A Delightful Tongue-in-cheek Western Romance

The Plum Pudding Bride embraces all of the tropes of spaghetti westerns and hilariously follows the pattern while poking fun at the cheesiness.
Patience dreams of a hero who is worthy of a novel, but finds that she might not be the best judge of “character”. Her story will have you rolling your eyes and chuckling at the same time.
