When the truth is poisoned, everyone's a suspect. Reading minds should make life easier, but Shelby Nichols knows better. Between poisoned pastries, cyber-attacks, and killers on the loose, her so-called “psychic” gig is turning deadly. Everyone’s lying and the truth is more dangerous than she ever imagined. Good thing Shelby’s got sass, smarts, and zero plans to die anytime soon. Psychic consultant. Mob asset. Mom. Multitasking has never been this deadly.

Ever since Shelby went out to get carrots and ended up surviving a shot in the head, her life has been turned upside down. She has her own consulting agency where she investigates crimes. She most frequently works for two groups. The first Joe “The Knife” Manetto, aka Uncle Joey, and his hot motorcycle-riding righthand man, Ramos. The second is her friend, Detective “Dimples” Harris, and the police department. The action begins when someone doctors a photo to look like she bought illegal drugs then someone plants heroine in her underwear drawer for the police to find. Suspended from the police department until she and Harris clear her name, she starts helping Uncle Joey with a different case. He and one of his partners, Eli Marsh, from Nexxus are at odds. Someone made it look like Uncle Joey killed Eli’s receptionist. Another claiming to be the keyboard king also makes it look like Uncle Joey paid off someone to do it. Meanwhile, Shelby’s husband, Chris, needs her help with a whistleblower trying to stay alive long enough to bring her boss to justice. With her hands full, can Shelby solve all her cases? Will she be able to clear her name?
Narrator, Wendy Tremont King brings her vast narrative experience to the table with this series. Her unique intonations and vocal pitches make each character easy to distinguish. Her narrative style fits well with the author’s writing style. The plot is engaging, well written, and humorous. The characters are memorable, well developed, and draw the reader into the story. At times, readers will get frustrated with Shelby’s husband and the police department, but the frustrations only make the plot more entertaining. Readers who like cozy mysteries, private eyes, and humorous mysteries will want to pick this one up.
Best Shelby Nichols one yet!
