In this collection of forty-five pieces, culled from his Blasting Caps columns from the past quarter-century and ranging in tone from the slight to the literary, McCarver returns to two William Wordsworth themes: the child is father to the man and the world is too much with us. Blending humor, poignancy, and nostalgia, Postmarked Cheap Hill chronicles his journey from a poor boy from Cheatham County to a miserable student at Vanderbilt to a high-maintenance husband. Love, though flawed and fragile, McCarver concludes, gives us the strength and wisdom to forgive others and ourselves.

If you've enjoyed the eloquent story weaving of Paul Harvey's The Rest of the Story, and the heartfelt laughter of Garison Keilor's Tales from Lake Woebegon, just toss in a healthy dose of small town Southern charm and you have this gem of a book.
The book's true-life character's triumphs, fumbles, virtues and faults are relatable to the point that you are certain you too, had the indomitable Mrs. Brenda Boyt as your senior English teacher.
A delightful read & listen. I will be lisening & reading this again for years to come.
