Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen was one of the most popular novels of its day, and it continues to be so, with many film and small-screen adaptations. The penultimate chapter examines some of the most pertinent quotations, including "it is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife", which gives a clue to the type of book it is.
