Hugh Rafferty hopes to see out his retirement from Western law enforcement in peace. The former Texas Ranger seeks to swap the days of conflict for a quiet life on the small ranch he now calls home in the remote high country. But it seems some people have other ideas. When gunslingers repeatedly launch attacks on his ranch, Rafferty assumes these are figures from his past, out for revenge. But he is a trained investigator, and as clues develop, he learns there is something much bigger afoot. They shoot him, and his dog and kidnap his girl. Rafferty must return to his violent old ways if he is to outwit these men, and he must call on allies from his past to help him overthrow the bandits who are after his ranch and his life.
