Raised Garden Beds 101

Title breaks down everything an aspiring gardener would want to know in not only planning and constructing raised garden beds, but once built, how to plant and garden whatever plants you might want. Considerations included time of year, climate, soil quality, and access to sunlight. The narrator was easy to understand, and the author organized the content in a way that was simple to follow without much difficulty.

FFA Raised Bed Gardening Project

This book is being added to our student science library. About eight years ago, our school was approached by the local business community about an Aquaponic project. Our school is located in a rural community near Palm Springs, California. There is a large agricultural and dairy farms business community. The business community provided a $5,000 grant and asked the school district to begin the project to get local high school students interested in a career. This is similar to the Future Farmers of America (FFA) youth organization, specifically a career and technical student organization based on middle and high school classes that promote and support agricultural education. We begin with aquaponic designs with fish aquariums attached to raised bed gardens. These raised bed gardens are now throughout our campus.

This book in audiobook format works better than the printed version for English natives. Our English learners use the book to listen while reading the printed textbook. My students liked the chapter on building the structure to prevent wood rot. Our campus has limited ground and soil, and the raised bed gardens made expanding our school's plants, vegetables, and flowers easy. Our students gave the narrator a 9.5 out of 10.

Needed this

Maintenance of gardens has always been my struggle, I can get them up and running but that’s about it. But with this guide I no longer have this issue and actually few positive about maintaining a garden throughout the season and beyond! Excited to put these tools and tips into practice!
