What if the quest to be a perfect loving parent was the very thing that kept us from giving kids what they really need? Do you ever feel that despite your best efforts you’re still not the kind of parent you want to be? For parents who struggle with perfectionism or codependency—sometimes without even being aware of it—the pressure to raise good kids can feel impossible. Raising Empowered Children is about becoming aware of the ways that we sabotage ourselves so we can find a more satisfying and loving approach to parenting. As a trained therapist and recovering codependent perfectionist herself, Carvalho guides us through the major parenting stages, tackling topics like helicopter parenting, natural consequences, boundary setting, role modeling, and positive reinforcement. Through case studies, personal anecdotes, and actionable insights, Carvalho provides practical steps to help us learn how to love our children—and ourselves—for who they are rather than who we think they should be. This book is exactly what I needed as a parent. It has really changed the way I think about parenting and my relationship with my child. It feels like a weight has been lifted and our whole dynamic in the household has already improved. I also really appreciate that the author approaches sensitive topics in a gentle way. I was worried the AI narrator would be bad, but honestly besides for a couple funny mispronunciations, I enjoyed the narration. I totally recommend this book for all parents and plan to re-read this again :)
