Kandukuri Veereshalingam (కందుకూరి వీరేశలింగం), also known as Veereshalingam Pantulu (వీరేశలింగం పంతులు), was a social reformer of Andhra Pradesh. He is widely considered as the man who first brought about a renaissance in Telugu people and Telugu literature. . He was influenced by the ideals of Brahmo Samaj particularly those of Keshub Chunder Sen. He got involved in the cause of social reforms. In 1876 he started a Telugu journal and wrote the first prose for women. He encouraged education for women and started a school in Dowlaiswaram in 1874. He started a social organisation called Hitakarini (Benefactor). The first novel is written in Telugu, 'Rajasekhara Charitramu' is inspired by Oliver Goldsmith's The Vicar of the Wakefield రాజశేఖర చరిత్రంలో రాజశేఖరుడు గారి ఆమాయకత్వము, అవివేకము వలన అతని కుటుంబం ఎన్నోకష్టాలపాలవుతుంది. రకరకాల మలుపుల తర్వాత మరల కుటుంబం ఆ కష్టాలను అధిగమిస్తుంది. రాజశేఖరుడు ఊరి పెద్దగా, తన ధనాన్ని దేవాలయం కొరకు, బంధు మిత్రుల కపట కష్టాలు తీర్చటానికి ఖర్చు చేస్తాడు. అంధ విశ్వాసాలకు లోనై బంగారం చేస్తాననే దొంగ బైరాగి దగ్గర బంగారాన్ని పోగొట్టుకుంటాడు. ఆ తరువాత కుటుంబంతో రాజమహేంద్రవరం వెళతాడు. అక్కడనుండి కాశీ యాత్రకు బయలుదేరి, మార్గమధ్యమంలో రామరాజు అనే మనిషికి ప్రాణాలు నిలుపుతాడు కాని కూతురు కూరమృగాలపాలైందనుకుంటాడు. ఒక వ్యక్తి సహాయంతో పెద్దాపురం చేరి అక్కడ రాజ ప్రతినిధి శోభనాద్రిరాజు కపటానికి లొంగి కుమార్తె వివాహం చేయబోగా, ఒక అగంతుకుని సాయంతో ఆ ప్రయత్నం ఫలించదు. ఆ తరువాత అప్పుతీర్చలేక కారాగార వాసం పాలవుతాడు. చివరకు కుమార్తెను ఎవరో ఎత్తుకొని పోగా, మరల మారువేషంలో వున్న రామరాజు సాయంతో రక్షించబడి, కుటుంబం సభ్యులందరూ మరల కలుస్తారు. కాశీలో అసువులు బాసాడని అనుకున్న అల్లుడు కూడా ఇల్లు చేరతాడు. రామరాజు అనే వ్యక్తే కృష్ణజగపతి మహారాజుగారని తెలిసి ఆయన సహాయంతో స్వంత ఊరు చేరి, అంధవిశ్వాసాలను విడిచి, అర్భాటలకులోనవక జీవితం గడుపుతాడు.©2021 Storyside IN (P)2021 Storyside IN
