Once burned, twice shy....

Jackson Roberts had tried commitment once. He'd tried it all the way to the altar, where he'd been left standing when his fiancé jilted him. That had been enough to convince him that his future would include focusing on the ranch and women.... plural. He hadn't met one that even tempted him to reconsider - until now.

Kaly Scott has put a heartbreak behind her and come to spend the summer at the ranch for one reason only. As research assistant to Jackson's brother, she can ill-afford distractions. But she hadn't considered just how appealing the tall, dark, laconic Jackson could be. Can they put their respective pasts behind them and reach for a future together?

Story was corny and very predictable. The narrator was good. Had hard time finishing the story.

Predicable

Should be listed as a romance. This was mostly about sex. The mystery was secondary to descriptions of repeated sexual encounters between the reluctant maiden and the overly hormonal, domineering alpha male.

Not what I was expecting

Not sure if the main male character was written to come across as a caveman or if the narrator helped his character come across that way. probably a bit of both. the mystery part of this book seemed to be added in as an after thought to give the book a little more depth. I actually went and checked when this book was released. even the female character didn't fit in our current era. she came across as wanting her independence and to make her own choices while secretly hoping for a caveman type. I'm not sure I liked the main characters at all. This book has left me unsatisfied with it. I usually finish a book wanting to know what happens next in their story, this book just left me feeling glad I managed to finish it...but I must admit I skipped about half of it. I love books. Can't say yay or nay on this one though. you have to judge for yourself.

Caveman alpha?

Story OK but ending left you wondering how this PhD bound woman could fulfill her goals with a misogynist fiancé. They don’t seem very well suited. Could have used an epilogue!

Narrator kind of ruined it for me…mispronunciations detracted greatly!
