In a land plagued by seemingly endless conflict, a new and even greater threat has emerged. The balance of power has shifted, fresh weapons and untold horrors unleashed. The only hope of salvation hinges on the return of a hero. A legend. A warrior without equal.

Braydion Chell is a world-weary, nihilist sell-sword haunted by his past. Loved by the opposite sex and feared by his own. He can count the things he cares about on one hand. Three of those are in mortal danger. He must conquer his demons and somehow achieve the impossible, risking all to save not only his country, but also his closest friends.

Some fight to live. Others live to fight.

My review is written after listening to the audio version of this book, which was narrated well by Brandon J Peterson. It's my first book by both this author and this narrator.

It's a fun high-fantasy story with good world-building. he author takes us to a war-torn land on the brink of total annihilation. But there's a way to bring it back from the brink, a powder that could change everything.

The king hires the services of Braydion Chell, a mercenary assigned as captain to what we would now call the King's Special Forces. Years later, with his reputation made but now out of favour with the king, Braydion travels the land selling his expertise with his sword, trying to make a living. When he finds himself with a death sentence, he and his old companions travel to a foreign land to try to arrange a supply of Bliss. Braydion is an interesting character with extraordinary abilities, which are enhanced when he takes Biss.

The story is a thrilling, action-packed ride from beginning to end, even though at times the dialogue seemed a little forced and didn't fit with what I imagine people would have said. That said it was an enjoyable listen.

Rating : 3.75/5 (rounded to 4)

Realm of Ruin is an action-packed high fantasy filled with medieval warriors, beasts, magic, and epic battles. The world is immersive, and the characters are well-developed, making it a unique mix of familiar fantasy elements. That said, a few sections felt drawn out or a bit forced. Overall, an engaging read with some pacing issues.

Realm of Ruin is an intense, character-driven fantasy that grabs you from the opening chapter and never lets up. Braydion Chell is the kind of protagonist you root for instantly — complex, determined, and carrying just enough shadow to make every choice feel meaningful.

The world-building is rich and atmospheric, filled with political tension, dark threats, and magic that feels both dangerous and alive. What really stands out is the pacing: every chapter adds stakes, deepens the mystery, or reveals another layer of the world.

If you love fantasy that blends action, intrigue, and memorable characters in a beautifully crafted world, Realm of Ruin is a gripping adventure you won’t want to put down.
