The debut memoir by Matt Pryor

(The Get Up Kids, New Amsterdams, The Terrible Twos)

Red Letter Days follows the life of a musician growing up, on the road, and following his dream of being a successful musician. Taken from journal entries from 1990–2000, the book is a collection of short vignettes about Pryor’s experiences crisscrossing the country (and the continents) with the band and the cast of characters he meets along the way told via first-person accounts of his most memorable moments.

I grew up in Kansas City and even though I’m about 5-6 years younger I remember loading up a Delta88 with 6 smelly guys and driving to Lawrence to rush the door at the Bottleneck to watch The get Up kids play. At one point in my life my band practiced down the hall from them in KC where they were pissing in the water fountain. The one thing this book reminded me is that no matter how great their music is and it is most definitely the soundtrack of my youth, Matt is such a giant fucking douche bag!

This band meant the world to me when I was a kid and I loved Matt’s storytelling.

A whole lot of nostalgia!

Great story with wonderful background on such an influential time period. I especially loved all the insight an hints at lyrics and goings-on with such a pivotal band.

Great story!
