Late in the 26th century, the human race has advanced enough to accidentally trigger the Inhibitors---alien-killing machines designed to detect intelligent life and destroy it. The only hope for humanity lies in the recovery of a secret cache of doomsday weapons---and a renegade named Clavain who is determined to find them. But other factions want the weapons for their own purposes---and the weapons themselves have another agenda altogether.©2008 Alastair Reynolds (P)2009 Tantor Hard Science Fiction Space Opera Science Fiction First Contact Alternate History

Nothing like hard scifi written by a career physicist. Read Revelation Space first!!! The technological concepts, particularly as it relates to the nature and future of intelligence, are unparalleled.

Thrilling and entertaining, with some interesting characters and places, this book is still not the equal of the prior books of the series.

Fine, but not as good as the previous books

I thought this book was pretty awesome... I especially liked the way the writer invents the technology of the time, and even describes how it works! I mean, you know it's SF way beyond our capabilities, but the way it's introduced into the story makes the reader believe that it's completely feasible for the era and not just a mind prop.

Great Listen!

This is the third book in the series but stands well above the other two in its thought provoking exploration of the Fermi Paradox began in the first book.

Best answer in fiction to the Fermi Paradox

The dialog was very stilted and unnatural. Writing on pervious books was much better. Narration was excellent.

Little disappointed in the writing.
