Redhaven Renegade

The Monster’s voice seemed to arrive a fraction after his mouth moved, as if the world had to make room for it. “The wages of sin is death,” he said pleasantly, and the trees leaned in to hear. “But death is not the end. Death is my beginning.” He walked another step and the vessel’s sockets caught the gray light as if it wanted to live there. “You carry a debt. You carry what is mine.”

The Monster’s eyes might have narrowed. Might have not. He simply continued,“Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death…” He put one hand on the deadfall Ward had used as a friend and pressed down. The wood protested and then remembered it had been a tree long before it was a barricade and failed. “…I fear no evil.” He leaned in, almost confiding. “For I am the evil, and I am with you.”
