After escaping from the Guild of Arcane Regulation and the Bureau of Secret Enforcement, Callum has lost his greatest protection: his obscurity. Now the powers that be know who he is, and hiding is harder than ever. Nor is hiding a plan, just a reaction.

Now Callum is forced to decide how he wants to approach the supernatural world, and how he’s going to keep himself secure when the apparatus of government is arrayed against him. Even if he wanted to live as a mage, that bridge has been thoroughly burned, and even if he wanted to live as a normal person, he is far too deep to close his eyes to what he’s seen.

So I think this is a great book. I truly enjoyed it again. There are some reviews mad bc he has a conscience about killing, yet i understand why he is the way he is. He still gets it done though. The magic system is great and the use of modern technology with magic is even better. I can see how power would corrupt the way of thinking especially if you are powerful. So for the MC to keep his knowledge and use his abilities at the same time is very smart.
***SPOILERS***
The ending was really good, I was just upset that I couldn't get the next book right away. LOL. He saved his girl Lucy, and stolen his old friend who doesn't like him anymore. She will now get her answers, so lets hope she listens and doesn't try to kill them both. LOL.

A++

This is one of the few series that I've read the written copy first and still gotten the audio version. Continues where we left off and expands on the world and Cal's struggle to find a place for himself in it with his unusual magic. Lots of clever and interesting ways he figures out problems and solutions. Also, Jeremy does a great job voicing it. I especially like how he does Chester.

Great continuation

He says it like "geese" with a z sound in place of the s. It's Welsh. You say "gesh"! Or at least use the normal English mispronunciation and say "geh-ahss". It sounds like he's saying a made-up slur for old people!

Great story and narration but I can't stand how he pronounces geas

This one spun its wheels a lot so it was harder to pay attention to it while listening as compared to the first book. His "relationship" to Lucy grows in this book but the actual dialogue between the two never really reflected that, it was more so explained than shown. I'm still not even sure why Lucy ever volunteered for the job to begin with since at the time the MC was an extremely dangerous and unknown quantity. But if you are able to just go with the flow and forget about actual human emotions and logic, the book isn't bad and is interesting enough for me to continue the series.

I hope the 3rd book has more of him fighting. Maybe this is a training session.

Was waiting for the guns
