Energy is vital for a good standard of living, and much of the world's population does not have enough. Affordable and adequate sources of power that do not cause climate change or pollution are crucial; and renewables provide the answer. Wind and solar farms can now provide the cheapest electricity in many parts of the world. Moreover, they could provide all of the world's energy needs. But while market forces are fast helping the transition from fossil fuels to renewables, there are opposing pressures, such as the USA's proposed withdrawal from the Paris Agreement, and the vested interests in fossil fuels.

This Very Short Introduction describes the main renewable sources of energy-solar, wind, hydropower, and biomass-as well as the less well-developed ones-geothermal, tidal, and wave. Nick Jelley explains the challenges of integrating renewables into electricity grids, and the need for energy storage and for clean heat; and discusses the opportunities in developing countries for renewable energy to empower millions.

He also considers international efforts and policies to support renewables and tackle climate change; and explains recent innovations in wind and solar energy production, battery storage, and in the emerging power-to-gas provision for clean heating.

This book is a very good brief about Renewable energy and its growth during in the last decade
The writer used to emphasize that this is the information up to 2018 as the field is very dynamic with cost values and estimates are changing rapidly.
It would be good if it was possible to download the figures which the reader is referring to through all the chapters, which makes it more understandable.
I recommend to have an option to download the text along with the audio version for formulae , numbers and figures.

Be prepared for poor narration

Narrator does not know that kw is kilowatts GW gigawatts and so on. He reads them as k w and G W. it’s irritating. But the info is very worthwhile

Deserves 5 stars if a companion pdf was included

Great content, but no accompanying material. A PDF that contains the figures should have been included. I had to buy the Kindle version separately to be able to view the figures. I don't regret that because this book is a fantastic reference for anyone new to renewable energy.

Good for what it is, missing companion pdf

This book read like an introductory textbook's cliffsnotes. It was informative but referred to many diagrams and charts I can't see because it's an audiobook. Long stream of numbers that I can't really retain.

I'm glad I got it, but this book could really benefit from a companion pdf.
