When Penny was initially able to adopt her brother's service dog, she was happy to have this big Anatolian shepherd as her companion. Thor, a four-legged Navy SEAL, retired soon after the combat death of his handler, Penny’s brother, Petty Officer Willard Moss.

But now Thor is missing.

“I’ve looked everywhere,” Penny sobbed. “I’ve posted fliers up and down Route Ninety-Seven. It’s been months.”

Bent over the dining table, the tall and lanky Penny Moss was distraught. It had been two months to the day since Thor had gone missing. She had adopted the multipurpose canine, who had been with her brother on the day he died. Both had been deployed from their station at the Navy base in Coronado, California.

The giant canine is her last remaining link to her brother’s memory. Afraid she may never see Thor again, Penny searches for him daily. Finally, after many fruitless efforts, they find an animal rescue center familiar with a dog who sounds like Thor, far out of town.

The problem is - someone else from the local area has recently adopted him. Someone with very special reasons of their own for wanting a dog like Thor.
