No one had ever looked forward to a funeral more than Cara McConnell. After all, funerals weren’t exactly happy occasions, but for Cara, the funeral of her best friend’s mother was the opportunity for which she’d been waiting. All of her college friends were set to be there including Andy Sheppard, the boy that she’d not just let get away, but the boy she’d pushed away.

For fourteen years, Cara lived knowing she owed Andy an apology. She’d endured an unimaginable marriage, surviving on memories and daydreams of Andy while siffling the guilt she felt for breaking his heart, for breaking her own heart. He had been the one and by the time she figured it out it was too late.

Now widowed, Cara was free to do more than daydream and free to do more than imagine righting the wrongs of her youth, but things are never that simple, not even for adults. Recently divorced and father to a teenager, Andy wasn’t as free as he once was and Cara was tied to unresolved issues of her late husband’s estate. They weren’t early twenty somethings anymore and there was more to life than saying, “I’m sorry,” “You’re forgiven,” and picking up where they left off.
