In the third book in the Cape Refuge series by New York Times bestselling author Terri Blackstock, a newspaper owner and a police chief team up to investigate the death of a mayoral candidate's wife, an event which quickly turns from small-town scandal into a national media event.

Ben Jackson is going head to head with Jonathan Cleary in Cape Refuge's mayoral race--and he's even expected to win--when his wife Lisa turns up missing the day before the major debate. Suddenly the town is in turmoil as proof of an alleged affair surfaces, indicating that Ben Jackson might have had motive to kill his wife.

Meanwhile, newspaper owner Blair Owens has other suspicions--and so does Police Chief Cade. Together they dig deeply into the mysterious disappearance that soon spirals into a web of confusion, dark secrets, and unsettling fraud. Then the town's psychic reveals the location of Lisa's body--at the bottom of the river. Even though Blair doesn't believe his paranormal gift is real, she can't imagine how he knew where the body was. The small-town scandal quickly turns into a national media event. Is the murderer one of the obvious suspects . . . or someone they have no reason to doubt?

Atmospheric, tightly plotted, and emotionally charged, River's Edge is a powerful addition to Terri Blackstock's Cape Refuge series (Cape Refuge, Southern Storm, River's Edge, Breaker's Reef).

This book is part of a series, however I was unaware it would be largely focused around miscarriage, infertility, IVF, foster parenting and children reuniting with drug addicted parents, etc. For most readers, this is likely no big deal, but if you've dealt with loss and been through IVF, parts can be hard to listen to. Especially if you're still in the midst of the infertility journey. The author once said that the fertility doctor was "playing God". I took offense to that, because if God doesn't have it in His plan for IVF to work, it won't, regardless of the doctor's ability and the science and technology available to us. The story was suspenseful and the book is a clean read, but if you're in this season of life, just be aware that it's a large part of the storyline.

Trigger: miscarriage, infertility

A fantastic story to listen to on our trip across the country. It helped to keep us awake as we listened to the unraveling of a mystery of "Who Was The Guilty Party?"

I really like how the three books are so entertained. The main storyline was intriguing. The subplots were fun.
