Ten years ago, Thomas Paxton was sent by Revolutionary France to infiltrate the British Intelligence Service. Now his sense of honor brings him back to London to confess. But instead of facing the gallows, he is given one last impossible assignment to prove his loyalty. Lovely, lying former French spy Camille Leyland is dragged from obscurity by threats and blackmail. Dusting off her spy skills, she sets out to track down a ruthless French fanatic and rescue the innocent victim he's holding, only to find an old colleague already on the case - Pax. Old friendship turns to new love, and as Pax and Camille's dark secrets loom up from the past, Pax is left with a choice - go rogue from the Service or lose Camille forever.

I LOVE this series. This is another 4.5 star book from Joanna Bourne. There is so much that I like about her writing. The characters get great dialogue; it's smart and humorous. The characters themselves have interesting stories. And the plots make me really pay attention which I love in a book. One thing that bothered me, though, was the line that included "Maggie and the kids..." Were children referred to as "kids" in this time period? Great book, great narration (which annoyed me in the first book - American voice), and a great series. Pax and Cami's story is well worth reading. I wish it didn't end!

I hated to finish this. It was great!

I adore this series. One ripping yarn after another. Mrs. Bourne tells a grand tale of spies and lovers. Well done. The performer reader does a good job. Just a couple of mispronunciations. It’s ochre, not okra, by the way. Hah! Otherwise, overall it’s very entertaining.

Wonderful series!

I’m treating myself to a new story every few weeks. Pax and Cammie’s story kept me as engaged as the others. I especially enjoy Bourne’s interesting turns of phrases and descriptions. She never goes for the cliches. Her loves scenes are filled with passion more than body parts. The pithy family sayings at the beginnings of each chapter were a nice touch. Grand intrigue and adventure. Love it.

Fabulous story, fabulous narrator. The entire series is so good, I’m longing for as many more as Bourne has in her.

This book is a little different than the other books in the series. I didn’t like it as much, but it was still a good book. It’s needed as a part of the series, so don’t skip it. Just be prepared for little things that might annoy you. The sayings and quotes before each chapter was a deviation from other books in the series, and it annoyed me quite a bit. You’re in the middle of a love seeing the chapter changes and all of the sudden there’s this quote that the Baldini said I understand why the author did it, but I think it was done in access. I love Paxton’s story, he is a wonderful character and your heart goes out to him. Cami also is a great character, but she did drive me a little crazy at some points. I love the passion in Paxton, it really gets your heart pumping.
