Worldwide, the pantheon of deities includes thousands of gods worshiped among various nationalities and cultures. Of course, most of us reject those other gods, only embracing the deity or deities we’ve been raised to revere.

When documentary filmmaker Jana Parish discovers clues to the existence of a long-lost but much feared ancient codex, she travels to the Island of Cyprus to search for the artifact. There, inside a musty burial sepulcher Jana encounters a Priest and an archeologist also seeking the codex. Together they embark on a dangerous search for the rogue text rumored to have been authored by the only human who might have known the reality of an afterlife.

A religious skeptic, Jana, and her colleagues, encounter deadly attacks from militant Christian zealots desperate to prevent the ancient testament from being found and translated. They fear the codex gospel would not condone their agenda to dominate Western democracies and turn them into Christian theocracies. Startling consequences take Jana from Cyprus to Italy, Malta, and Spain where she must rely on her intellect and charisma to survive and reveal the Rogue Testament to the world.

Once I began listening to Rogue Testament, I couldn’t stop! The compelling plot grabbed me from the start and moved along at a great clip. The cast of characters is rather small, but each is well-defined and it was easy to differentiate them, something that can be challenging in some audio books. Mr. Rogers introduces possibilities and interpretations of early Christianity that I had never considered. This book would promote a great discussion for a book group.
