New York Times best-selling author Jon Katz has written a successful series of mystery novels, nonfiction works, and a popular fiction series based on his experiences with the dogs on his farm.

In Rose in a Storm, Rose is a working dog devoted to keeping the sheep and other creatures at Bedlam Farm out of danger. But as the weather grows cold, Rose senses danger - a storm unlike any she’s seen. When an epic blizzard finally strikes, Rose needs all her courage to help her master save the farm.

The dog stories Katz writes all have a genuine feel about them. The world of the dogs is richly described and the animals—while they behave naturally— are infused with personality and motivations that hook you from the start.

Jon Katz does not sugar coat anything: though he could idealize or soften events, he writes authentically about farm life, warts and all.

I loved that he gives readers an epilogue chapter at the end. After the traumatic events of the climax of the story, the epilogue is like a hot cup of tea at the end of a satisfying day.

Beautiful, gritty story by a man who knows border collies and farm life

Although this story is not told entirely from the point of view of Rose, you are convincingly, vividly and completely transported into her world. Not since "Watership Down" have I found a book which so effectively accomplishes this feat. It is well read and utterly engrossing. Some of the details of the final couple of chapters are somewhat unrealistic, but I think this is notable mostly because the rest of the story is so riveting and believable. Taken as a whole, the story is very uplifting, but at times can be devastatingly sad - particularly for the soft-hearted - keep a box of tissues handy if you are of this ilk! The story of Rose has been indelibly imprinted on my memory and has become one of my all-time favorites (no small task for a very avid reader); I will surely return to it again and again for years to come.

Absolutely Fantastic From Beginning to End

I loved everything about this because the author wrote it from the dog’s point of view. Rose’s dedication and drive to preserve life is powerful. If you love dogs you will love this book.

Rose Is Amazing

I could entirely be biased in my love of dogs, but this story, trust me, was absolutely amazing. The performance was great, and I enjoyed the reader's southern accent was very enjoyable. The conclusion was great, and without spoiling the story, there were quite a few touching scenes. Definitely a book you should purchase if you're a dog lover.

Absolutely amazing story.

Story told from both Rose's & her masters point of view. It is a very touching story of the working border collie. It is well written & performed. I will recommend it to all my BC owner friends. Having two of them myself I know the way they need to work and their personalities are so different from any other dogs I've ever had.

A story for all Border Collie lovers.
