Born to a life of privilege, Lady Ravenna Huntley rues the day that she must marry. She's refused dozens of suitors and cried off multiple betrothals, but running away - even if brash and foolhardy - is the only option left to secure her independence.

Lord Courtland Chase, grandson of the duke of Ashvale, was driven from England at the behest of his cruel stepmother. Scorned and shunned, he swore never to return to the land of his birth. But when a twist of bad luck throws a rebellious heiress into his arms at the very moment he finds out he's the new duke, marriage is the only alternative to massive scandal.

Both are quick to deny it, but a wedding might be the only way out for each of them. And the attraction that burns between them makes Ravenna and Courtland wonder if it'll truly only be a marriage of convenience after all....

Well written story overall though the female character was a bit over written to the point that she was unlikable. Of course it may just have been the narration which was particularly dreadful. I've heard better acting during middle school plays.

Nice story, awful narrator

First off the narrator issue took over the story before I could even enjoy the story. Like the story seems decent but I had to quit 1/2 way through and just go get it from the library as the CHOICE of narrator was abysmal. She has a pleasant voice and seems well read HOWEVER her accents are deplorable, especially American men, and she would have been more appropriate for a dowager or later in life heroine, NOT a young debutante. Please for the life of this book have this book re-narrated.

worst choice for narrator!

otherwise it's a cute and happy book. I love the mixed race stories and perspectives! the narrator does a fine job with the accents even the southern accent and male voices except for the duke of Embry. he sounds very silly.

boatswain is bosun, right?

I like the characters of this series and the BIPOC platform within the storyline. I was not a fan of this narrator. The narrator of the first book of this series would have been good. Although I kept wishing I was listening to Mary Jane Wells, nobody quite delivers quips and snarky dialog like MJW.

Enjoying this series

I didn't enjoy this audible at all. The narrator was completely wrong for this story esp during the steamy scenes 😆
In this story our heroine sounded like a spoiled brat with 10 years of smoking under her belt. The hero's voice was much the same but a little lower and really rushed.
I'm going to read this story...so I can enjoy it.
