Early one July morning, Astrid, a young wife and mother, brushed strands of her long blond hair from her slightly tanned face as she ran toward an isolated section of an urban park. She was training for a half marathon with steep hills and wanted to practice on terrain resembling the race course. She hadn’t planned to run solo, but when Theresa, who was supposed to meet her, didn’t arrive by their agreed-upon time, Astrid took off alone. Forty minutes later, someone came up behind her, pounded her in the back of her head, and strangled her. Two days later, two bird watchers discovered her body. Two weeks passed, and the local police department hadn’t identified any suspects. Astrid’s murder became a cold case.

Plagued by guilt, Theresa launched an investigation although she, a university professor, knew nothing about solving crimes. Needing someone to help her, she recruited Naomi, a chef who often ran with her. The two amateur sleuths invoked their inherent smarts, mirrored investigative techniques they’d read about or seen in movies and on television, and, to gain information, exploited Naomi’s romantic relationship with a Baltimore City detective.

A few months after Astrid’s murder, another runner, this time a man, was strangled in the same park. Convinced that a serial killer was responsible for these deaths, Theresa and Naomi intensified their efforts. They were so intent on solving these crimes they jeopardized their own lives.

Full of twists and turns, Runners Murdered in the Park will captivate readers not just of mysteries and romances but also of books about the sport of road running and road racing.
