When Jelaine’s parents purchased and moved the family into their own nudist camp, life slid off the rails of normalcy. Her childhood became divided between the casual, free-thinking camp and the uptight, judgmental world outside.

As hard as Jelaine worked to keep her two worlds separate, her parents worked equally hard to bring them together, to convert the world to nudism.

When theatrical plays, pageants and a movie production were thrown into the mix, the family secret became impossible to keep.

Join Jelaine for the struggles and capers of growing up naked. There’s no need to peek through the fence. Just throw off your inhibitions and come on in.

A real “coming-of-age” story like no other!

Critic reviews

"Beautifully and compassionately written, with raw honesty and a wicked sense of humor…” (Sylvia Clare, author of No Visible Injuries)

I loved this book! The author tells an engaging story about something most of us would have no idea about. Oh my gosh, the stories, the characters- they’re a hoot from beginning until the very end!

Eye opening and funny

So much better and more enjoyable than I was expecting. I was expecting the typical argument that if everyone got naked, rapes would disappear and the world would be a better place with everyone respecting each other. The Nudism argument usually sounds very similar to the lets all smoke Marijuana argument, a little truth and a whole lot of false claims. Not many people will just simply say “I do it because I like it". This book was so neutral. So down to earth. It made me feel a longing to have been there growing up. I really appreciated her bringing up the perverted people in both life styles. The more I listen to historical books, the more I believe being wicked is basic human nature if you don’t have a higher belief. Not necessarily religious beliefs, but just standards in general. I didn't mind the narrator or writing style. I thought they were appropriately chosen.

I expected to be disappointed

My wife and I became a nudist in our 20’s. I often wonder what it would have been like to grow up a nudist. So I was very excited to read a memoir from someone who grew up in the same area of Florida I did. However, I hated every second of this book. From the clunky writing style meant to mimic a child’s speech, to the narrator’s choice to imitate Forest Gump. On the narrator, I have listened to her in other books and she has a beautiful voice, so either she think’s Florida talk like inbred mountain people or the actual author sounds that way and the narrator was imitating her. To add insult to injury, the author turned her back on nudism. Such a shame from start to finish.

Epic Disappointment
