A life threatening storm is the perfect hunting ground for a serial killer looking to play

Ten years ago, Simone Granger’s brutal murder rocked the sleepy little town of Millners Kill. Steve Kane, then sixteen, was quickly arrested and convicted. But Steve knows he’s innocent. Someone else took the life of his best friend’s sister.

Now on parole, Steve is forced to return to the town that hates him. He would rather be anywhere than Millners Kill. But at least in his hometown, he’s got his grandmother, his brother, and State Police Investigator Declan Reed on his side.

Steve, though, has a plan: he’ll keep his head down, draw no attention to himself, and as soon as he can, he’ll move away from the town that hates him.

But someone else also has a plan for Steve, a course of action he’s been waiting ten long years to finish.

As the storm of the century hits Millners Kill, the bodies begin to pile up. A town is losing its grip, and all their rage is focused on one man.

Steve knows he’s an innocent man. But will anyone give him a chance to prove it?

Story

Disliked the computer voice. Very detached. A real person would have made it 5 stars

good book, really bad virtual voice narration

The writing is good, I liked the pace, the plot and characters. This would have been a great listen, but the virtual voice was bad. The sound of the voice seemed human, but the cadence, inflection, and tone were off. No emotion, some words pronounced poorly or incorrectly run together or had random pauses. There was either no inflection or
the wrong words were accentuated and it just made it sound wrong. No change in tone or accent to help determine if it was a character speaking or the narrative. If I had written or published this book, I would not have signed off on this narration. This was the first virtual voice listen for me, and probably the last. I wish I'd just read it.

a good story ruined by the narration. the virtual voice has weird pauses and gaps. mispronounced words and no tone or inflection. very distracting

Really great story!

Very suspenseful, a page turner! I liked the virtual voice. To be honest, the virtual voice had inflections, wasn’t monotone, didn’t whisper, if I didn’t know it was comp generated, I would have thought a person was reading/narrating.
