DCI David Garrick knows what murder does to a family.
He’s been living with it since his sister was killed.

Now someone is staging bodies across Kent’s postcard-perfect villages — mutilated, displayed, and marked with a gruesome signature carved from the victim’s own flesh.

The press are circling. The public are afraid. And the killings are accelerating.

As Garrick leads the investigation, the case begins to echo uncomfortably close to home. Old grief resurfaces. Judgement falters. And the deeper he digs beneath the county’s manicured lawns and quiet lanes, the uglier the truth becomes.

This isn’t random.

Behind the ritualistic murders lies a ruthless network of organised crime and human trafficking — protected, profitable, and closer to power than anyone wants to admit.

But the killer isn’t finished yet.

And if Garrick can’t untangle the connection between the victims in time, more bodies will be laid out for him to find.

Because this time, the murderer isn’t just taunting the police.

He’s testing Garrick himself.

No change in voices amongst characters. Consider this a book reading instead of a performance and it's fine. I would like to hear this series with a better voice. Great story though!

I am an agreeance with everyone else I do not like the narrating by a computer. I have listened to many ebooks and I would have to swear that this book series was totally made up by AI. just the way things are said and written in the book that would not be in a normal crime fiction book. what is up with the detectives not having any self-defense guns that doesn't make a lot of sense. every detective has a weapon given to him by his department. specially after listening to two books going into three you really can tell the wording is just completely off. I think that if it is an AI book they need to come out and admitted it but that probably will not happen. I am still listening to all of the books I just get past some of the narration where the words aren't correct.

I do like that the characters lives do follow from book to book.

Did not appreciate the social engineering agenda or the pitch for open borders-I read books for entertainment, not political controversy. Also, did not care for the virtual voice-it was flat and blatantly artificial. Otherwise, though, the story line was interesting.

The story was pretty good. It was the only reason I finished it. The voice was terrible.

I really love crime novels, but listening to AI read just takes all of the enjoyment out of it. The inflection is wrong, sentences run on and I have to rewind just to figure it out. What happened to the human touch? I really wanted to love this story but struggled with the AI reading.

horrible AI
