Seeing as he’s sheriff, Royce has no choice but to get involved in solving the murder, but he’d prefer Maxwell stay at a safe distance. Maxwell would prefer that too, but when an attempt is made on his life, he’s unwillingly sucked into the case.

When Maxwell moved to Rainy Dale, he’d hoped for a new beginning. But after two attempts on his life and his unnerving emotional attachment to Royce, more and more Maxwell wonders if staying in Rainy Dale is the logical choice. Perhaps it’s time to run back to Los Angeles, where he can keep his body and his heart safe.

Better and better

I loved the audible edition of this book. It really brought the characters of Maxwell and Royce to life. This mystery series is excellent and should be read by all. I was thrilled when Ms. Wynne started having them recorded and look forward to the next one.

Happy for more

I really enjoyed this book. It has a solid cozy mystery coupled with engaging characters. I thoroughly enjoy "grumpy guy" characters and Max, well he's a grumpy guy trying to reform and it is adorable, funny and endearing all at once. And Royce's kindness is just the perfect foil and he makes me smile. The mystery is solid, with a nice bit of twist. The narrator does well, providing distinct character voices and his sense of pacing elevated the tension and suspense at just the right time. This was really good and I hope we get book 3 in audio soon.

First and foremost one of my favorite series to read. totally enjoyed the book but love listening to the audible also. Matt Hayes is able to capture the essence of the character and one of my favorite characters in a book is Royce.

Haynes is fantastic!

I love this series and definitely wanted to listen to the audio version. Haynes makes the characters personalities pop. Great tone and flow, can't wait for the next.

Truly great mystery series

Thoroughly enjoyed this series from the start. Maxwell quirky and somewhat grumpy personality meshes with sweet, but protective Royce perfectly. The books are wonderful but the audiobooks just keep getting better. Matt Haynes narration is spot on and wonderful. He brings both Maxwell and Royce’s personality to life perfectly. I can’t wait for more as Rainydale continues to experience the highest Murder rate any small town has ever seen.
