Scarred Hearts

Claire Montgomery is a survivor. During the War Between the States, her family's plantation was burned to the ground, killing her parents and leaving her scarred, both physically and emotionally. Despite facing extreme hardship, she's grown into a compassionate woman with a heart for helping people. She lives in a small cabin with an old ex-slave and a young boy, who was the lone survivor of a wagon train attack. The three of them have formed a make-shift family that includes a one-eyed cat and a baby fox. Their world changes the day a gunfighter full of bullet holes collapses on their land.

Very Sweet story

Well written story. The characters are well developed. I'm hoping that there will be a sequel so that we can know where the relationships go and how their story progresses. As always, Rebecca Roberts killed the narration. She has steadily become one of my favorite narrators. Her ability to narrate each character voice and keep us entertained is amazing.

Beautifully Scarred

Tiner has created two scarred characters, Claire physically scarred by fire and Nathan emotionally scarred by bitterness. This is a good read with well defined characters and excellent plot. I wanted the series to start or flash back to the fire to define Claire's relationship with Tobias and show how they found James more. The romantic tension is good between Nathan and Claire. It's difficult to rate. All but one scene is PG13. That one scene is a soft R rating.

Western Romance

An odd little family thrown together through circumstance, a woman to whom all the sick and injured turn to for help, an ex slave and an abandoned child. Throw in to the mix a badly injured gunman who Claire nurses back to health and you have the makings of a story.
Yes, it's a bit predictable, but nevertheless there are a couple of little surprises, and a bit of adventure. I did feel though, that the story dragged a little at times therefore not always holding my interest. A warning though, it does contain spousal abuse which, apparently, was not a criminal offence in the time this story is set.
Narrator
Narrated by Rebecca Roberts who does a great job of adding life and energy to this story. Rebecca is skilled at differentiating characters, ages and genders, the listener is never in doubt about who is who.

Interesting story

A good story and I loved Claire and all the children. I just wasn't in love with Nathan. I didn't care for the ending very much. Still an enjoyable read and the narrator, Rebecca Roberts did an excellent job. Happy reading!

Very Enjoyable Love Story

Billi Tiner did an excellent job with this novel. Her characters were well defined and the story line held my attention throughout. Great way to spend an afternoon.
