In remembrance of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz and the Nazi concentration camps, this award-winning, bestselling work of Holocaust fiction, inspiration for the classic film and “masterful account of the growth of the human soul” (Los Angeles Times Book Review), returns with an all-new introduction by the author.

An “extraordinary” (The New York Review of Books) novel based on the true story of how German war profiteer and factory director Oskar Schindler came to save more Jews from the gas chambers than any other single person during World War II. In this milestone of Holocaust literature, Thomas Keneally, author of The Book of Science and Antiquities and The Daughter of Mars, uses the actual testimony of the Schindlerjuden—Schindler’s Jews—to brilliantly portray the courage and cunning of a good man in the midst of unspeakable evil. “Astounding…in this case the truth is far more powerful than anything the imagination could invent” (Newsweek).

As I began listening I was initially saddened by the revelations of Schindler’s character. The adage, “don’t meet your heroes” came to mind. But the longer I listened, I was reminded of the truth and reality of how God uses us in our weaknesses to confound those who the world considers strong. Oscar was a man of many talents and weaknesses who was placed by God in extraordinary circumstances and used in extraordinary ways to save many Jews. Oscar was moved by the compassion of God and despite his weakness showed God’s people mercy. Because of this, miracles occurred and many evils were blocked in a time when evil seemed to be unfettered. This book beautifully tells this story, reveals the truth, and shows how mercy triumphs over evil.

I’ve seen the movie and that was so emotional. This book explains in great detail the actions of a pure hearted man despite his flaws. It’s a must read especially now when people only seem to think of themselves

A compelling historical account. the author does a superb job in conveying the story of Oscar Schindler and the cruelty of the SS . another record of what a people whose worldview had been poisoned by darwinism and lost of the image of God can do. Christians must read with caution, some gratuitous language is used in the narrative.
