An entrancing new series starring a funny, impulsive, and sometimes self-congratulatory young woman who discovers she has psychic abilities—and then must decide whether she will use her skills for good or…not.

Teddy Cannon isn’t your typical twenty-something woman. Yes she’s resourceful, bright, and scrappy. But she can also read people with uncanny precision. What she doesn’t realize: she’s actually psychic.

When a series of bad decisions leads Teddy to a run-in with the police, a mysterious stranger intervenes. He invites her to apply to the School for Psychics, a facility hidden off the coast of San Francisco where students are trained like Delta Force operatives: it’s competitive, cutthroat, and highly secretive. They’ll learn telepathy, telekinesis, investigative skills, and SWAT tactics. And if students survive their training, they go on to serve at the highest levels of government, using their skills to protect America, and the world.

In class, Teddy befriends Lucas, a rebel without a cause who can start and manipulate fire; Jillian, a hipster who can mediate communication between animals and humans; and Molly, a hacker who can apprehend the emotional state of another individual. But just as Teddy feels like she’s found where she might belong, strange things begin to happen: break-ins, missing students, and more. It leads Teddy to accept a dangerous mission that will ultimately cause her to question everything—her teachers, her friends, her family, and even herself.

Set in a world very much like our own, School for Psychics is the first book in a stay-up-all night series.

Wow, what a great story!!! I was intrigued the entire time and the story line never disappointed. The narrator was great! Looking forward to the next book!

SO GOOD!

The book was well written, but I don't like when authors take really intelligent characters and make them do really dumb and out of character things, just to make the story take a turn. Try maneuvering the story another way.

Good overall but sometimes frustrating

The story and plot were mildly entertaining. This is yet another take off on the genre honed by JK Rowling, but with adult action included.

Harry Potter genre for adults

Still a bit on the fence about this one. I really liked the idea of a school for psychics, and the descriptions of what the different skill sets were. I found Teddy's recurrent dreams interesting. I also enjoyed some of the interactions between the students, and I thought the final exam course was pretty cool. I was certainly motivated enough to finish the book.

On the other hand, I agree with other reviewers that the book is a bit heavy on clichés, and I also had a pretty clear idea on the main suspect early on after the blood samples go missing. Things seemed to go downhill for me from there. Also, as other reviewers have noted, decisions got made that didn't seem in keeping with the characters, or that were really stupid decisions even without the benefit of hindsight. I haven't decided if I'll read the sequel yet. I've got a lot of other books to listen to before testing the waters of this world again.

Interesting start to a series

This novel reads almost like a screenplay (there's a bit that's "all in there mind"; hey... it's psychic... what do you expect?). It's a fairly straight-ahead action thriller mystery (what happened to my parents; conspiracy). But a well-conceived world worth watching. I feel like the young 20-something female protagonist was written by a man...and the way characters blurred the work world to personal life line said author *raised in the 80s man* to me (she falls into bed with both male characters portrayed as attractive, too much *her curves, his abs...* blah blah). (won't I die after giving this *from the hip review to learn the author is a 20something girl raised on Harry Potter, ha ha; just giving a traction, no harm intended; I would be very proud to have created thus work). The characters somehow could have been more likely drawn, this is more if a plot-driven storytelling.

This *will* be a series, not Xmen, watchable
