Forty-year-old widow, Karen Logan, is desperate for a new life. Stranded in a community of onetime spiritual seekers that her single mother brought her to as a child, she now finds herself a prisoner to the whims of a dictatorial cult.

Karen seizes an opportunity to escape with her young daughter; a girl prized by their oppressors for her special gift. Fleeing their communal manor home, plus a life of servitude and enforced drug use, they make for the tiny coastal settlement of Seasalter in Kent.

Life in the outside world proves challenging for mother and daughter. Karen faces free romantic choices, rather than arranged coupling. But such liberty carries its own responsibilities.

How does she balance raising young Hayley in this alien environment with the costs and implications of a romantic relationship?

What if the cult catches up with them and they have to go on the run again?

And then there’s the carefree, mid-life local musician, Jonah Hammond. A man with a lopsided smile to melt a woman’s heart. Part of her is drawn to his warmth. But is there more to Jonah’s easy-going existence than meets the eye?
