Adam had spent most of his life pursuing adventure—climbing some of the world’s steepest mountains, snowboarding dangerous backcountry terrain, and BASE jumping off of cliffs. Jane was a sex educator with a PhD in psychology, a female sexuality empowerment activist—and a self-described slut, who rejected monogamy and the societal norms of what a sexually well-behaved woman should be. No stranger to extreme living and taking risks, Adam thought he could handle whatever his relationship with Jane threw at him. But the very public, open-as-fuck relationship was more than his strong male persona could bear. Rather than walk away and protect his ego, Adam applied the lessons he had learned about fear while free soloing high up on rock faces and free diving a hundred feet below the surface of the sea to navigate an even more terrifying situation—the woman he loved having lots of sex with lots of other men.

Neither a celebration of non-monogamy nor a cautionary tale, Seek the Risk is a firsthand account of what one extreme sports competitor went through after falling in love with the “wrong girl.” His journey forced him to reevaluate his ideals about relationships, female sexuality, and his own masculinity. It was also the wildest ride of his life.

Adam's journey through extreme non-monogamy

Adam's story was entertaining, thought provoking and sexy. His descriptions of his climbing adventures were gripping. There was a lot of sex in the book. It could have been more explicit as far as I am concerned, but it was still good.

Seek the risk is right!

This book is specific as it relates to non-monogamy, but my take away was communication, openness, willingness to change. I feel the lesson I learned was to lean into the risk, whatever it may be,For things to work there has to be compromise. This is probably true with any agreement or there will be resentment. Great lessons from the book, about life. Live hard, be happy only thing guaranteed is that there’s an ending. I heard about this book through a pod cast that I won’t name in fear of getting my review removed for advertising I’ll just leave that strictly anonymous for now.

Relatability

Loved the author’s journey and how he relates it to all the other adventures that drive him to be his truest self.

Mesmerizing self-reflective dive on the deeper end

This thoughtfully told story walks you through the beauties and risks of an extreme open relationship setup, and examines how it reflects on attraction, self-perception, and intimacy. The narrative is particularly rare, because the vulnerability and doubts come from the male character. If you've ever wondered about these topics (or are already wandering through them) check it out.
