In “Self-Symmetry,” Bates thrusts audiences into a profoundly unsettling — yet immensely entertaining— kaleidoscope of twisted circuitry, bubbling tar, caustic rumination, and early 2010s cultural reference points. Michael Thompson Brown embodies each of the story’s characters exceptionally, perfectly balancing the humor and horror of the source material. Highly recommended.

Enthralling! Perfect description for scene and characters. Excellent use of foreshadowing and diversionary plots to complement the narrative.

Outstanding story concept

It's a beautiful execution of dread and despair. "The King In Yellow" and "I Have No Mouth, And I Must Scream" had a Love child.

This might spoil it for some...

This is one of my new favorite stories. The author, Colin Bates, created a real sense of fear and dread in a brilliant tech-forward setting. I love seeing into the broken mind of the narrator, and the pace was so good. The narrator, Michael Brown, was truly fantastic with each of the voices. It was just a delight.

Eerie and Excellent
