“Great talent, great imagination, and real been-there done-that authenticity.”
—Lee Child

“Not since Fleming charged Bond with the safety of the world has the international secret agent mystique been so anchored with an insider’s reality.”
—Noah Boyd, author of The Bricklayer and Agent X

Matthew Dunn knows his spycraft—and he proves it once again in Sentinel, his second electrifying Spycatcher novel. A former British M16 field officer trained in all aspects of intelligence collection, small-arms and explosives, military unarmed combat, and more, Dunn has an addition talent most other spies lack: he can really write! In Sentinel, Dunn brings back Agent Will Cochrane—whom Kirkus Reviews calls, “a Nietzschean hero who looks poised to give Lee Child’s Jack Reacher a run for his readers”—and sends him to Avacha Bay in eastern Russia, where he must infiltrate a top-secret submarine base, decode a cryptic message from a deep undercover operative, and quite possibly prevent a devastating war. Espionage fiction fans who regularly devour the works of Daniel Silva, Robert Ludlum, Alex Berenson, Ted Bell, Brad Thor, Vince Flynn, and Barry Eisler will discover there’s a new ace on the international thriller scene.

Would you listen to Sentinel again? Why?

No. The story was okay but the reader was distracting. Most of the action scenes were really far-fetched and the main character seemed too robotic. The attempt at humanizing him didn't work.

What didn’t you like about Rich Orlow’s performance?

The voice he used for the main character sounded phony and everything he said had an angry or aggressive tone. No one sounds angry all of the time.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No

The reader distracted from the story

narrator easy to listen to. maybe some things that continually happen to the hero are over the top, a secret agent series that's always captivating. highly recommended Will Cochrane series!

Will Cochrane storyline series is the best.

Sorry, burn the super hero Will Cochran is beginning to bore me. Involnerable, always restistant towards beautiful women and always the gentlemen. this is my third book and I think also my last. I'm longing for an English novel, bored to death by the word vehicle. what's wrong with car, lorry, truck? How many times is the word vehicle used in this book? To many!

Predictable and boring

After reading a few reviews of Matthew Dunn's other books I decided to start with Sentinel. Unfortunately that didn't save it for me. Rarely do I stop listening to a book before the end, but I did with Sentinel. The characters are a flat, not dynamic at all and I found the plot started to DRAG very quickly. I found myself wanting to listen to almost anything else before I'd gotten 1/2 way through. By the 2/3 mark I had to punch out...
Additionally Rich Orlow's narration is not my particular favorite. The character's voices get garbled and indistinct after a very short while. Listen to the sample and imagine adding a bunch of characters, something I normally like, but no way to differentiate them. FRUSTRATING.
All this is too bad because there are moments that hint at more. But those moments come too far apart for me to continue. I really wanted to like this book, but I am sorry to say I'll be asking for my credit back.

Promising but unrealalized potential
