Raised in the Aegrician royal family, her grandmother the queen for nearly one hundred years, Messalina knows the crown will choose a new queen soon. The crown chooses who will rule, after all. But it never gets the chance.

While Messalina is worried the crown will choose her as the next queen, a position she does not feel ready for, there is a plot by another to use magic and murder to steal the throne. If Messalina wants to save her kingdom, she must flee her own world and sneak into the human realm to find her prophesied human mate and bear the kingdom’s future queen. If she fails, not only will the cost be her own life, but it will also be the downfall of her kingdom.

Shadowed by Prophecy is the first book of a prequel trilogy for the Crown of the Phoenix series. The events take place about twenty-five years before Crown of the Phoenix, with a different main character.
