Aleksey doesn't like helpful sayings. He particularly doesn't like Ben Rider-Mikkelsen pointing out that paranoid men can't see the wood for the trees. There's a truth to these wise words, however, that applies directly to him when you're paranoid that everyone is out to kill you, those who actually are can be easily overlooked. But for once, Aleksey ignores his instincts that something is threatening the family.

Tired of fighting windmills, imaginary or otherwise, he decides its time to kick back and just enjoy being Lord of Light Island. He should perhaps have remembered another helpful saying: the tide always turns.

A little less angst this time

Thoroughly enjoyable as always. Ben and Aleksey have some really hot scenes together and we learn more about Squeezy’s backstory. This still continues to be my favorite series of all time.

Calm Before the Storm

Shadows in the Midst is a quieter installment in the Winds of Fortune series...less action-packed than previous entries, and I could see it working well combined with the finale. That said, I’m still invested in Ben and Aleksey, even if Ben can be a bit of a spoiled brat and both could step up more as fathers to Molly. Gary Furlong’s narration, as always, makes the audiobook a joy; his delivery brings depth and charm to the characters, keeping me engaged despite the slower pacing. Even Squeezy’s antics are more entertaining than frustrating with his performance.

Good but to be continued.

I have all the books and eagerly looked forward to this one even though I knew it wasn’t a complete story.

"Mr" John Wiltshire - your talent surpasses all expectations AGAIN!!!!! Thank you for yet another glorious gift!!!! I loved EVERY word of this latest edition!!!!! I can't tell you a time where I had to stop and listen to a chapter again - IMMEDIATLY--full disclosure...I did that chapter after chapter!!! I loved the many references to previous books and the many perils and shenanigans of this amazing chosen "family!!!" It was treat to have either POV...because Gary Furlong is brilliant!!! AND NOW...I wait...for the next installment!!!!????

Great narration as always. Warning—this is a calm between storms. I can’t wait for the next in the series!!!
