Boyett nailed the narration, I think he is really underrated. This series had me really surprised at how he performed different characters.

How do you rate a book this long? Sometimes I found myself slogging through it. I'll simplify it with what I liked and didn't like.

The bad-( nothing terrible) I wish there was more character development. There were a few characters that I rally like and wanted more of their backstory. I felt the writing got bogged down with additive during war scenes. Either my mind or the plot tended to meander. This may need better editing?

I really liked some of the alien species. They were unique in syfy and Boyett portrayed them really well. Space combat and travel must be hard to write and be original. But some of it was.

This is my honest review.

Good story, excellent narration

The first book starts with a banger of a premise and the action goes crazy from there. I loved the books as they came out and was excited to try it in audio are a Boxset. A great deal, and an amazing story!

Great story!

I read scifi to escape reality, not for a lecture on politics. the first 6 books were good, I couldn't finish the last three. the author hits you over the head with communism = bad (which I agree with for various reasons, but come on) and presents a very one sided attack on DEI. if I wanted that I'd watch the news.

The first two series were good, last series too political

I’m usually not the biggest space opera fan. Too many characters to follow for audiobooks, too many obscure sci-fi names, too much disconnect from reality.

This book (or at least the first trilogy) does a great job at making it feel like a big space opera without getting muddled down in a lot of the space opera minutia. It’s a relatable story with some great characters. Occasionally it falls into some cliches but overall delivers a solid sci-fi story.

The story is politically relevant and fairly anti-capitalist but not in any way that over inflated or too different from our own reality. Just know that there’s political tones throughout but no more than something like Star Wars.

First Trilogy is great

first trilogy was great, the mech wars quartet was OK, It was a little slow and took too long for me to care but got there eventually. the third trilogy is where things really get off the rails, alternate universes, evil twins, time travel.
was hoping the evil AIs would be from some super cool advanced aliens and it was just lame evil twin humans from another reality where they destroyed their universe with the wormhole tech problem from the first trilogy

Started strong. then went downhill. big spoilers.
