It's a week before Christmas, but Milwaukee bar owner Mackenzie "Mack" Dalton is hardly in good spirits. Chilled to the core by the murder of bouncer Gary Gunderson, Mack is determined to use her extra-perceptive senses to identify the gunman responsible.

Did Gary's patchy past brew up some fatal trouble, or could his death be linked to a series of cryptic letters concocted by Mack's anonymous adversary?

With a second case to crack, innocent lives at stake, and a media frenzy in their midst, Mack and her barstool detectives have little time to mull over the grim details - especially when clues lead dangerously close to home....

I also have synesthesia and thoroughly enjoy listening how others experience it! I think the story plot is top notch although I have a hard time liking the heroine. I’m not sure if it’s the writer or the narrator but she comes of as whiny and insecure. I feel she is constantly second guessing herself and then following it up with contradictions. In my opinion, she would be so much better if she were more witty with a bit more comical confidence. Other than that I do enjoy this series.

Great plot!

This book is part of a series that features a bar in Milwaukee and the owner and patrons. There are good characters and lots of plot twists. The family of patrons help bar owner smack solve questions and find answers.
Good series and this was a good book. While there are a few deaths or injuries, they are not the focus. Solving the “who dune it” is the focus. Pacing is good and the twists and turns keep you interested.

Good characters and plot twists

I love the main characters in the books and especially find Mac’s synesthesia such an interesting, refreshing twist to every book in the series.

Another tantalizing book from a great author

I’m having so much fun with this series! The characters are lovable and well individualized. I live in MN and have spent quite a bit of time in the areas described. It’s fun to have those seeds that suck you in even further. I’ve walked those streets. So when they’re on this “scavenger hunt,” I’m there too. The story is engrossing and fast paced. So good!

So much fun!

I really like this series but agree with reviewer who said some cities in WI are hard to pronounce. I think the narrator should spend some time to make sure they are properly pronouncing them. Waupon for example. That one really made me cringe.

Series is fun
