Successful but shy, Seattle art dealer Mattie Sharpe fell hard for handsome, outspoken, professional adventurer Hugh Abbott. When he broke her heart and returned to his South Sea island home, Mattie vowed she'd only meet him again over her - or better, his - dead body.

When they do meet again, it's over someone else's dead body - and now they're running for their lives through a tropical paradise. Hugh's talking fast to make up for his mistake. Mattie's not listening...until his gentle touch ignites a white-hot fusion, and she gives in. But Hugh's past is catching up with them, and Mattie must stake her very survival on the man she loves - the only man who ever let her down!

If there is a silver lining to a broken heart, Mattie's about to discover it - when love storms back into her life and sweeps her off her feet!

Much better read than I thought it was going to be when I started. At first, I thought “Oh no! I’m not going to like this one.” But after I listened to a couple of chapters, I was proven wrong.

The drama

Can a girly girl and an adventurer find love, do they have enough in common to get over their past? I remember liking this when I first read it, but listening to it was not quite as good. It may be that it is just a bit dated, and Jayne Ann Krentz does tend to have the same plot and characters for all her books. The hero was overbearing and the heroine a bit desperate and naive for my taste in this book. I would have like more adventure in the second half of the story, since the part in Seattle was dull. Overall the book wasn’t bad. Narration was good.

Okay.

I found the characters to be predictable and cliche, and not very likable. When you really don't like the personalities of the hero and heroine, it makes it very hard to enjoy the story. The story itself wasn't bad, but it was also a bit predictable. It kept my interest enough to finish the book, and I didn't hate it, but not my favorite.

Not a bad story but.........
