Annice is a rare talent, able to Sing all four quarters, but her brother, the newly enthroned King Theron, sees her request to study at the Bardic Hall as a betrayal. To his surprise, Annice accepts his conditions, renouncing her royal blood and swearing to remain childless so as not to jeopardize the line of succession. She walks away from political responsibilities, royal privilege and her family.

Ten years later, Annice has become the Princess Bard and her real life is about to become the exact opposite of the overwrought ballad her fellow students at the Bardic Hall wrote about her. Now, she's on the run from the Royal Guards with the Duc of Ohrid, the father of her unborn child, both of them guilty of treason - one of them unjustly accused. To save the Duc's life, they'll have to cross the country, manage to keep from strangling each other, and defeat an enemy too damaged for even a Bard's song to reach.

Heartbreaking and hilarious

Both heartbreaking and hilarious in turn, this story really grabs your attention and keeps it! Can’t wait to get the next one!

Fabulous story, narrator slightly annoying

I loved the story, and Nicole Zanzarella voices the characters distinctly and well. But she has a habit of lowering the pitch of her voice at the end of every phrase and going breathy. I got used to it, but it was still annoying.

Really Good

I recommend this title. It has a well developed world, and many, if not all, believable and consistent characters. There is treachery without there being dire situations drawn out. The suspense is entertaining.

Love love love this book

It's so refreshing to listen to a story with an open relationship that works. Where it's not unusual for a father to be the primary parent. Where same gender partners aren't odd.

And to find it in a book where those believes aren't the focus, but considered the norm is amazing.

Brilliant Huff

Very much enjoyed this book. Prefer some of her more obscure novels a bit more, but defiantly worth the listen. One part I had problems with was the end where it jumped around so fast it was hard to keep track at times.
