"When the siren queens came to power over the other fae, it wasn't that they had become civilized. It was just that the wolves had learned to live with the sheep."

Born into a line of siren queens bound forever to Ardaion's ancient wellspring of power as its defenders, Serena is rejected at birth by her mother, the ruthless Queen Mab. Raised instead by her grandfather, a legendary general, Serena grows into a powerful warrior and mage, trained to command armies and courts alike.

As she comes of age, the siren in her awakens, but with no mother to guide her, she fears what she is becoming. When invaders from a dying realm threaten Ardaion, Serena steps onto the battlefield, unleashing her deadly siren powers to defend her homeland. But victory demands sacrifice—and devastating loss transforms her into something fiercer, more determined, more dangerous.

Bound by blood, magic, and duty, Serena must become the leader she was born to be—even if it means confronting the shadows of her birthright, the ambitions of those who betrayed her, and the brutal legacy of the queens who came before.

Comps: Game of Thrones meets ACOTAR, Stormlight Archives meets From Blood and Ash, Priory of the Orange Tree meets The Poppy War

Themes: legacy and duty, coming of age, love and loss, power dynamics, rulership, personal agency, morality, utilitarianism vs. deontology, sisterhood, matriarchy

A great story and the narrator did an amazing job. It is a little long and repetitive at times. But once I caught on it captivated my attention and kept me wanting to see what came next. Also, it had me emotional over the characters and now I want to know what happens to them. Recommend for people who like slow storybuilding yet captivating world.

This one delivers on the fantasy essentials: how the world began, how it evolved, and why it is the way it is now. The story is genuinely interesting, though the pacing gets bogged down with too much detail at times. Even so, I'm invested enough to continue with book 2. 3.25/5.

Okay, So I know this is a trilogy, so i'm not gonna grade it harshly. Because has the making of a fantastic trilogy. with all the other books added into it this one starts you off with the background of how everything is going. So it is a little long-winded, there's maybe a 1 a chili pepper worth a spice.
And it's detailed in how things are put together which some people won't like, but I do.
I like it when you explain things before they pop off, but seriously that ending I know you told me it's a cliffhanger. But that's not really a cliffhanger that is a to be continued in the next book. Not exactly a complete cliff. But dang it, I really want the rest of it.Please tell me the next audiobook is halfway through being produced

Voice over was raspy and kind of slow, but great personality for Serena and Mab. Absolutely love the story, I want to read the rest of the series. Lastly, I hate Mab, lol.
