BLOOD AND ICE

Majestically it rose from the icy waters, the gateway to the awesome wilderness of Alaska. Sitka drew all brand of adventurers, con men, criminals, and pioneers—men such as trail-tough, battle-hardened Jean LaBarge. He left the swamps of the Susquehanna behind for the rugged beauty—and deadly challenges—of this frozen frontier. But the empire-hungry Russians had already established a foothold in Sitka and they wouldn’t give it up without a fierce and treacherous struggle that stretched from San Francisco to the palaces of St. Petersburg. Now Jean faces the most dangerous fight of his life: a fight for a passionate woman and the right to claim Alaska for America.

Too short 🤔 only because it was so riveting. 🧐 travel the times of history. Characters represent making decisions for the best for everyone not just self.

Greatest story telling

Although I love Lamour’s westerns, I also enjoy his other historical fictions. In a time before aerial mapping, I can see that gathering bits and pieces of information from individuals who have been there would be invaluable.

Great Alaska story

I do love Louis L'Amour but this one didn't resonate with me. I love Alaska stories but it didn't captivate me. I choose it because of many good reviews but it didn't deliver.

The descriptions of people and places were not vivid. I would expect amazing, lush descriptions of Sitka and Russia but it was lacking. It droned on.

I wish the book had continued as it began, focused on the very interesting younger LeBarge as a swamp creature.

The romantic female character, the Russian wife, was beautiful, flat, and boring. The accent was a little annoying but other than that the narrator was very good.

Compared to most other westerns it still rates 5 for effort but it was not as compelling as other L'Amour stories.

I recommend for diehard, passionate L"Amour fans who want to consider all of his books, otherwise there are better L'Amour books to thrill and enjoy.

Barely a 5

I own all, but one or two of Mr. Lamours herdback novels. But in today’s world, I never have time to sit and smell the pages. His audiobook adaptations have become a favorite of mine and Jason Culp is one of many brilliant readers. I hope to gain access to all his un-dramatized novels on audiobook. Thank you Lamour family for making these happen. I teach my kids that in these stories that they read there are grains of life lessons, and nuggets of morality to be safeguarded and practiced in their own lives.

Brilliant
