How far would you go to save the one you love?

Six months after a devastating infection collapses society as they knew it, Atlas and Moose barely survive an attack on the base they had been living in.

Stranded and alone, with Atlas battling the deadly infection, a sketchy radio transmission speaks of a safe zone somewhere in Pennsylvania. Atlas makes it his mission to get Moose there safely.

What begins as a hunt for safety and freedom, turns into a deadly race against time, as they soon learn that the world has been hiding something far more sinister than the cannibalizing disease that is swiftly eradicating mankind.

David S. Dear's performance with Royal Poff's emotionally rich writing truly brings this character drama to life!

This is set during a post-apocalyptic world due to an infectious disease turning people into flesh eating fiends, but that's not the main focus. This story is actually about love, survival, and what one must go do to protect both. Atlas and Moose struggle to survive in this new world, but they at least have each other, that is until one of them gets infected. A crossroads opens up for the infected- to maintain their love and keep searching for a possible safe zone or separate and not risk eating the other.

Poff's poetic prose is phenomenal and I loved the descriptions of the flesh consumption. Satiating the crazed hunger is described with ecstasy, bordering sexual pleasure. It reminded me of the drug connotations the vampires had while consuming blood in "Only Lovers Left Alive." In this story the infection is also comparable to the drug addiction satisfying that hunger just enough before needing the next hit.

I felt for the characters, they were real, tangible. I know I would've been in tears had I read this as opposed to listening to the audio. I can't wait for my second round with the physical book.

A character driven apocalyptic story

Overall, I liked this story from Royal. it was a love story masquerading as a zombie apocalypse tale! I would have like more from Atlas slowly slipping into being a muncher, though. It was a quick audiobook and worth the credit spent! the narrator was upbeat, articulate and added to the drama of the story.

short and tense!

This book was a refreshing mix of zombies and werewolves (at least IMO). Atlas and Moose are two young men who are in love and just trying to stay alive during an outbreak that turns people into ravenous flesh eating wolves. There is plenty of action, gore and violence, but what really sets it apart is the lengths someone will go to in order to protect those they love.

From the very start, the reader knows how this story will end, but the author still manages to give you hope in the direst of circumstances. The emotions felt by the two main characters will truly tear at your heartstrings and stick with you for a long time. I was given the chance to listen to the audiobook version and the narrator did a wonderful job. My only complaint about the book is that it tended to jump around with each chapter and I often thought that I had missed something. Otherwise, it was an enjoyable read if you like post-apocalyptic horror with plenty of emotion.

Emotional rollercoaster

Between the writing and the narration, this author has me hooked. It exactly the kind of book I’ve been itching for to get me out of my slump.

This book has me by a chokehold. I’m not even halfway through but I am enamored by it.
