The nurses of St Angelus Hospital face the hardship of another winter in this heartbreaking story by million-copy best seller Nadine Dorries.

In 1950s Liverpool, five very different girls begin their training at St Angelus Hospital, in Lovely Lane. The nurses are known locally as the Angels. They are Dana, Victoria, Beth, Celia and Pammy, and at St Angelus they learn quickly about life in all its richness and its sorrow. The Angels must battle through the snow to save Victoria's baby, and young doctor Teddy Davenport begins to make some serious mistakes....

Touching, heartbreaking and often humorous, too, this great series is a rich tapestry about poverty, sacrifice and community spirit, set in postwar Liverpool in the early days of the NHS.

I LOVE this series. The characters are amazing and well developed. This particular book, however, frustrated me. It felt rushed. Also, why would you change the name of a person in the 5th book of the series? Maisie Tanner has suddenly become Mavis Tanner. It took me off guard and I was racking my brain trying to figure out who Mavis Tanner was in the beginning of the book. It was hugely distracting and took away from the listening pleasure.
I love the addition of Mrs. Gaskell, but her story also felt a bit rushed. I don't know if the author had a deadline and just threw something together, but this book wasn't up to the usual standard. I look forward to the next book in the series and hope the author puts more time and care into it. This book is okay, but Ms. Dorries has done better in previous books and I know the next one will be up to her usual standard of exceptional.
