When Dan Benton learns that a long-time friend's in trouble, he cuts short his Las Vegas vacation, and flies back to Los Angeles. And when his friend winds up dead, and Dan suddenly becomes the police's Number One suspect for the murder, the handsome California private investigator has to solve the case himself, or wind up in the clink - or worse....

But the deeper he digs, the steamier the stew, and soon he's in over his head, getting beaten up, shot up, and banged around, all the while trying to find his way through the maze of misleading clues to the killer or killers at the end of the line.
