"A dark and riveting page-turner with an intelligent twist." —Nadine Matheson, author of The Jigsaw Man

SOMEONE HAD TO MAKE HIM PAY. SOMEONE HAD TO TAKE HER DOWN.

Brandi Maxwell is living the dream as an intern at prestigious New York fashion house Simon Van Doren. Except “living the dream” looks more like scrubbing puke from couture dresses worn by hard-partying models and putting up with microaggressions from her white colleagues. Still, she can’t help but fangirl over Simon’s it-girl daughter, Taylor. Until one night, at a glamorous Van Doren party, when Brandi overhears something she shouldn’t have, and her fate becomes dangerously intertwined with Taylor’s.

Model and influencer Taylor Van Doren has everything…and is this close to losing it all. Her fashion mogul father will donate her inheritance to charity if she fails her next drug test, and he’s about to marry someone nearly as young as Taylor, further threatening her stake in the family fortune. But Taylor deserves the money that’s rightfully hers. And she’ll go to any lengths to get it, even if that means sacrificing her famous father in the process.

All she needs is the perfect person to take the fall…

Don't miss Amber & Danielle Brown's next riveting thriller, ZETAS TILL WE DIE, where during their ten-year reunion Priscilla and her sorority sisters are forced to confront the secrets of their past when one of their sisters didn't survive the night...

Editorial Review

She said, she said
Shayna Small and Brittany Pressley take turns narrating the story of two young women tangled in a twisty murder plot in Amber and Danielle Brown’s suspenseful debut, Someone Had to Do It. Brandi’s internship experience at the fashion house of her dreams is cut short after overhearing Taylor, daughter of fashion mogul Simon Van Doren, plotting to kill him. Framed for the murder, Brandi fights to clear her name and bring his real killer to justice. Switching the point of view between Brandi and Taylor allows both narrators to shine and ratchets up the tension until the final twist. —Margaret H., Audible Editor

This audiobook had me on edge for two days straight. Brilliant creative writing from the authors. I love the plot twist, the characters and the way the story was structured. Also, the voice actors did not disappoint one bit. This audiobook was so good, I had to purchase a few hard copies that I’ll be gifting. I highly recommend this audiobook in your library! It’s that dope!!! Trust me, you’ll thank me later.

Book was sort of predictable. I enjoyed the performance though. It shed light on some racial things and happy justice was granted.

Great character development and not so predictable ending. Socially conscious while still entertaining. Written well enough that I found my eyes well up with tears for Brandi a few times. Great job sisters!

Great Storyline

I’ve listed to this book twice. It felt nice to be able to relate to a character.. being “too black”.. having braids… worrying about being perceived as an angry black woman. I’m here for it. I liked the story as well. I hope these two writers collaborate again.

Good Listen
