From the New York Times bestselling author of Something Borrowed comes a novel that shows how someone with a ‘perfect life' can lose it all—and then find everything.

Darcy Rhone thought she had it all figured out: the more beautiful the girl, the more charmed her life. Never mind substance. Never mind playing by the rules. Never mind karma.

But Darcy's neat, perfect world turns upside down when her best friend, Rachel, the plain-Jane "good girl," steals her fiancé, while Darcy finds herself completely alone for the first time in her life…with a baby on the way.

Darcy tries to recover, fleeing to her childhood friend living in London and resorting to her tried-and-true methods for getting what she wants. But as she attempts to recreate her glamorous life on a new continent, Darcy finds that her rules no longer apply. It is only then that Darcy can begin her journey toward self-awareness, forgiveness, and motherhood.

Emily Giffin's Something Blue is a novel about one woman's surprising discoveries about the true meaning of friendship, love, and happily-ever-after. It's a novel for anyone who has ever, even secretly, wondered if the last thing you want is really the one thing you need.

Critic reviews

“You don't have to lust after your best friend's boyfriend to worship this book. Here's a heroine you'll root for and a book you won't want to put down” —Lauren Weisberger, author of The Devil Wears Prada

“Page-turning, heartbreakingly honest.” —Entertainment Weekly, Grade A

“What kind of self-described ‘nice girl’ would sleep with her best friend’s fiancé? One who’s seriously flawed, like this delightful debut novel’s heroine, but also surprisingly winning and real.” —Glamour

“A thrill to read.” —Washington Post

Darcy has it all and she gambles high. No wonder she's devastated when she looses everything. But in den end it does her good. Realistic? No! Fun to read: Yes!

Good choice for a long ride.

The Narrator sounds like she’s 100 years old. I can’t believe it’s a younger female lead.

Story was great but,

I actually read this book years ago and I read it before Something Borrowed. I prefer it to SB and as hard as they try to make me hate Darcy I can’t. The real villains are Rachel and Dex, and I can’t believe their version/movie is considered a romcom. Despite Rachel claiming Darcy was her best friend and that she loved her-her entire storytelling appeared as though she secretly hated Darcy. And I NEVER got that from Darcy’s POV. Rachel came off a jealous, insecure and secret hater. Was Darcy a little selfish? Sure! Was she self absorbed? Absolutely. But she didn’t do anything to Rachel to make her feel such secret animosity (and don’t bring up the college thing. Darcy just said she got into that college bc maybe she wanted to feel as smart as Rachel). Even though Rachel did this to her,Darcy’s POV and memories of them together was nowhere near the secret dislike Rachel had. Dex and Rachel deserve each other :/. That said- I’m really upset I paid for this book on audio bc it was insanely short compared to Something Borrowed. I saw on my screen it was chapter four and thought I had much more to go but no- that was it 😭

I think this is superior to Something Borrowed

I read Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin before reading this book, which I highly recommend doing. It was an enjoyable read, and I recommend to those who enjoy light reading. It definitely helped pass the time on my drive into work.
