What would have made Speak to Me Spanish, Volume 3 better?

I bought a couple of these on sale, but they still weren't worth the few dollars, nor my time to listen to them. To be fair, you get exactly what the excerpts depict: a story is read in English, then repeated while alternating English and Spanish sentences, then the story is repeated in Spanish.

I found the English reading to be a complete waste of time - so 1/3 of the material is really just filler.

The articles/stories are rather trite and uninteresting. This made it all the harder to get through.

There is no discussion, explanation or vocabulary to aid your understanding of what is being said. Many phrases in the English stories are very idiomatic American English, and thus are not translated literally. If you can't make out the words, or don't understand the phrase or verb tenses used, you are out of luck.

Has Speak to Me Spanish, Volume 3 turned you off from other books in this genre?

Yes.

Any additional comments?

These might be worth a $0.99 itunes download, but honestly, I couldn't even finish them. The articles failed to hold my attention, and I have found other sources better for learning Spanish and even just for listening to native, "real" Spanish being spoken. In short, there are better uses of my time when trying to learn Spanish.

Probably a sincere effort, but not really helpful
