"My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge" (Hosea 4:6). So mourned the prophet Hosea. i am a flawed instrument

so i shouldnt use introspection to know myself because i am a flawed instrument. instead, i should build my understanding of self by listening for god's judgment of me? but without thinking for myself, how am i meant to distinguish gods assesment from that of my own ego... or worse.. from the devil?
