Bernard Samson is a spy on the run, forced to abandon his life and job and plunge into hiding. But in the murky, dangerous streets of Berlin, he knows where to hide. Wanted for an act of treachery he has not committed, he must not only escape the grasp of London Central, but get to the bottom of a tangled conspiracy that is about to change everything. Something about the way these books, gently unfold, something about the way the narrator begins to inhabit your mind. Something about the way you become necessarily hooked on a daily dose of Bernard Sampson’s world and worldview like food, like a light wine, something, and you have to keep faring through all of them. But I did go back and read Winter early on in the series and it does make everything make more sense. But nothing in Bernard‘s world really makes sense and that’s part of the propulsive forward movement of the entire 10 book series. I dig it, I’m hooked. Hook, line and sinker…

Once you’re Hooked, you’ll be in for the Sinker…

I love this series. Great narration, classic characters, depth of story line is intriguing. And there are 7 books. Love it.

Plot points don’t seem to go again. Things are either forgotten about or not resolved. There is an over reliance on slice of life material. There is zero suspense in this spy novel. Like the previous entry in this “second trilogy” it’s just boring. I’m throwing in the towel. I won’t be continuing.

Nothing happens. Again.
